It matters not only in how much or how often but what are you feeding ? I find many of the people I come in contact with are feeding kibble AND soft food AND treats and other "stuff". I know its done because they " LOVE" that adorable little face that looks at them and begs for all that "JUNK". It would be far better to feed a good high quality kibble and training treats and leave it at that.
My dogs have free choice of Nutro puppy or adult kibble and water at all times and they never overeat and if I say so myself, have great teeth from the dry food.My vet and others constantly ask "How do you get teeth like that?". They get homemade liver treats for training and Yes sometimes just because they have adorable faces

but are never overweight.
