I use disposable pads only when I have a whelping girl, for pee I use washable and wash them every other day, I do use Baking soda in the wash cycle, I fill the washer with warm water add, bleach, detergent and baking soda from the box, mix it well and then add the diapers one at a time to make sure they soak well, then wash in the heavy cicle as usual, I been doing this for many years and never had a problem with odors or residue in my machine.
