I use washable pads but i wash a load everyday. I use Tide with bleach and occasionally use bleach and hot water. I don't usually wash them with other items. It has never made my washer smell like pee. It is much cheaper than buying the disposable pads. I have 4 Yorkies so this is much cheaper.
