I've always just dabbed a little butter onto pills, and my two have eaten them up! But putting them on the back of the tounge and holding the mouth closed will work... It just kind of sucks to have to do it, especially if he struggles.
If you do try the butter, don't reenact the same routine you've had. Change rooms, act like you're eating it, put it in his bowl and leave it there for him to find... Whatever you have been doing, mix it up! He's got you pegged, so if you keep the same routine (like sitting on the kitchen floor begging him to take it, like I did the first time
) you'll never get it down there! Also, is there maybe another brand you could try, since you say you have to buy new pills anyway? (Although I am completely with the person above who says just reuse the squished ones!)
You could also try crunching the pill up n a mixer and blending it with some cooked chicken breast. Serve it as a treat. He'll eat all of it then, for sure!
