We finally solved our tick problem here by staying out of certain areas on our walks. Also, when I work under the trees in our yard, I change clothes and shower immediately when I come in the house. We have the outside perimeter of our house sprayed by an exterminator once a month, and we spray our yard for pests.
If you find a tick, don't flush it. Drown it in rubbing alcohol to make sure it doesn't come back.
