Ya know, I notice Maddie does this from time to time. It is always one foot and she will go at it for a day or so, then nothing for weeks. I have also inspected her feet, toes, pads, trimmed hair, everything. I am glad you found your culprit. I will have to keep an eye out for this next time she has this type of episode.
