Your tribute was so beautiful and made me cry. I have a hard time coming to these threads as it always seems to break my heart.
I'd like to share something that I collected along the way on one of my doggie forums. I'm not sure who wrote it but I thought it was so wonderful and fitting and it has brought me comfort...
There is only great heartache and grief when there is great love. We have
the terrible misfortune to live beyond the years our 4 legged family members
live--yet in truth there is no such thing as time. It is but tomorrow that
we meet again, and only yesterday that we said goodbye.
How blessed we are to know such great and good souls, and have our lives
enriched by their presence, transformed by their love.
It is with a song in our hearts that we undertake a new relationship with
each creature that comes to us, and in our innocence and joy we blindly open
ourselves to something that will, eventually, turn our hearts to ash. We
purposely forget how the ending will turn out. And because we are so
wonderfully made to seek true love, we patch our broken hearts and sing a
new song for the next being that comes to us, forgetting again the ending
that awaits, in exchange for the unconditional love only a 4 footer can give
us. It is our blessing, and our curse.
