I would definitely be looking into pet insurance before anything else comes up. $850 is a lot, but really not much for time in the ER.

When they do get like that (vomiting and not wanting to eat), xrays should be done almost without exception. Bloodwork also needs to be done most of the time. It could have been much worse.

Glad she is okay.

Remember, if she were to break a leg or something, that's $3-$5K at a specialty hospital. If you can't put it on a credit card, then insurance is pretty important.
