You will probably get lots of advice soon. My one suggestion is letting Elphie come around on her own terms. If she wants to stay distant I would let her. For the sleeping situation, any chance of you and your spouse / significant other sleeping in separate rooms?
It is just me but this is Elphie's home and she needs to know that she comes first in my opinion. Not saying that you would neglect your visiting little boy at all... just perhaps tag team to ensure both their needs are met/covered.
Oh, and I hope one or both are fixed!
