When Ellie was spayed, she was upset (so quiet) because of her onesie. But after a few days, she did want to move around quite a bit. She used to get really distressed in the crate. So I held her for most of the day for 2 weeks. The mattress was put on the floor so she could sleep with me. We did have one jumping incident that thank God didn't end up hurting her.

It sounds like he is doing okay now. Just remember that confinement is for his own good. He doesn't understand that moving can injure things, esp. if he is pain free right now. Pain meds are great (wouldn't do a spay/neuter without them), but they then aren't in pain and don't recognize their limits quite so easily. So it makes it harder to keep them quiet.

If you can't keep him still, then the tranquilizer should be considered.

You are looking for redness, pain, heat, and swelling at the surgical site. A little bit of redness tends to be normal.

Also could try:
Playpen/xpen
Blanket over most of the crate
Crate in room with door closed
Crate outside with you if you are nearby
Stroller inside or outside (Ellie used to like to lay in hers)

Also,
