Default String-a-toy

About a few months back, I took one of my pup's favorite toys (teething rattler ball), put an elastic string on it and hung it up for him to play with..HE LOVED IT!...This was one of the things he played with early in the morning, mid day and late at nite before lights out. It made a lot of noise and gave him a run time for at least an hour. Here is the problem, today the string somehow tangled and twisted around his tooth..OMG. The good news, I was sitting right there when he started to whine. It took about a minute and a fight to get this off his tooth. Right after that I cut the toy down. Now its late and he keeps jumping up in the area where I had his toy strung up. I've taken him back to his toys to show him the toy but he doesn't want to play with it. Here is my problem...I really want to string it back up but am fearful that this problem will reoccur. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just leave it alone.
