Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new addition to the family. You are correct that canine normal body temps are higher than that of humans. I always think my boys feel so warm, which is nice during the winter.
It would be a good idea to do a wellness check with your vet since you just acquired this pup, and the previous owner never had him groomed. The vet could tell you if his temperature is normal.
