As far as size....I think she will make it in the 4lb range but not much more than that. With her being the size that she is she will most likely be too small to breed safely.

When people think of breeding the see all the fun involved. The cute puppies and everything going smoothly. Well, I am here to tell you that it does not always happen like that.

I took care of a 4lb girl who was breed and she ended up having a c-section just to deliver the puppies and then a 2nd surgery 2 days later just to save her life. She spent 2 nights at the ER vet and the puppies all had to be bottle fed. Sure puppies are fun and cute but the weeks of no sleep and the money for the emergencies to make sure they all survive takes a toll on a person. I still to this day look at the momma and tell her I am sorry for what she went through. She is fine now but she had one foot inside deaths door and was given less than a 20% chance of survival.

I am not saying that all breeding encounters experience the problems that we seen but my question would be is having puppies worth it to put your little girl through that?

With so many puppies in shelters, I am sure you could find a perfect one for your family members and still have your precious little girl safe in your arms.

Good luck with your research and your discission.
First, thank you to both of you for your input. I appreciate it. I still have a lot of time to decide anything because she is not even 8 months old yet and its best to wait till they are about 2yrs old anyway. But I will definitely consider all the risks/benefits when the time comes. I most likely will not breed her because I don't think she will get to 5lbs either, but I definitely want to breed A dog somewhere down the line of my life. I guess when I choose my next Yorkie (oh yes, I will definitely be a more than 1 yorkie kinda girl! lol! Plus, I think Dolce would appreciate a companion...i guess you can't just have one! haha) I will be looking for something different and looking for the qualities needed of a bitch that will be good for breeding.

As far as getting Dolce a companion, male or female, I would like to get an older Yorkie from a rescue of some sort. Does anyone know of any rescues in Tucson, AZ or even Phoenix, AZ??? Maybe i should start a new thread about this in another section, i donno.

Thanks again to both of you! You gave me a couple other things to think about!
