My parents got a toy poodle under similar circumstances, she was flown in, breeder was very talkative before the sale and then became nonexistent- we are almost positive she must have been raised in a kennel. She is about to turn 5 and she has made such huge changes over the years- she still cowers if people reach down to pick her up too quickly, but otherwise she has learned to live in a house perfectly and she has turned into a great little dog- so stick with what your doing, the key is lots of love and patience- good luck
