I think she does have some capacity to know time. Often she'll get excited around a hr before I get home, but then sometimes she'll be overly excited much of the day. That always makes me feel bad.
The garage door opener is what let's her know I'm really there, but watching her from my phone in the drive way, I can't tell a difference in her actions.
