I'm a very recent pet owner, so I'm not experienced. However, the Yorkie I just acquired, Lily, is 2 years old and has full blown allergies: sneezing, runny nose and eyes, itchy skin - the works! The woman I got her from told us to use Children's Benadryl at night, per Lily's vet; her vet has had her on shots before and it didn't help at all. The usual dosage is 1-2 mg per lb. (Lily is 6 lbs., so she gets 1/2 teaspoon, which is 6.25 mg of Benadryl.)

I've tried changing her food to a high quality wheat, soy, and corn free kibble, but that hasn't seemed to help. However, you might try upgrading her food and see what happens. According to all I've read, a lot of dogs are allergic to common food allergens, and some are allergic to chicken.

One helpful little thing is, I put a baby t-shirt on my little girl; it keeps her from scratching so much. (She was losing hair before because of the scratching.) She never complains about wearing one.

Hopefully someone more experienced will pop in soon.
