Cooling pads are great if your dog will use them. I don't care for the ones you have to soak to use, but the ones that look like a mini old skool waterbed mattress and you fill with water, work really well! My last yorkie, Chelsea, just didn't like it, but my friend's dog did, so I'd haul it out & fill it when he came to visit.
For Chelsea, I had a large, cutting board size, piece of polished marble that was supposed to be used for baking....rolling out pastry, etc. I'd set it on the floor by the ac vent and Chelsea would run right to it when she came in from outside in the summer.
