Thanks for all the great responses. Wow, what a huge variation in grooming prices! Yikes, $60.00 in New York City? On the other end of the scale, I can't imagine a groomer even breaking even who only charges $20.00 (unless thats just a bath and not a haircut) I know a lot of the PetSomethings offer puppy packages that are really inexpensive.

I never even thought about tipping!

Ohmygosh! I feel so terrible...I tip for my hair cut so I guess I should tip for hers We always go to petsmart though, and pay up front. And I don't really ever know who worked on her or anything...does that make a difference?
This is exactly the response I expected to see to this thread. A surprisingly small percentage of people tip year round. Holiday time is definitely much better. I really think most people don't tip because it hasn't occurred to them. It's kind of interesting though because I think pretty much everybody tips their hairdresser. Am I wrong? Any hairdressers out there? The funny thing is all of you that are good tippers are probably the people with the best behaved and least offensive dogs. Not to mention that no one is going to herniate a disc lifting a yorkie. Often the least likely person to tip has a badly matted, flea and tick covered dog who just happens to be covered with mud and burrs because the owner figured 'might as well go for a nice hike through the weeds before poopsies appointment today since she's getting a bath later'.

Something I found humorous:

Top 10 reasons you should tip your dog groomer as well as or better than your own hair stylist

10. Your hairdresser doesn't wash and clean your rear end.
9. You don't go for 8 weeks without washing or brushing your hair.
8. Your hairdresser doesn't have to give you a sanitary trim.
7. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your ears.
6. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean boogies from your eyes.
5. You sit still for your hairdresser.
4. Your haircut doesn't include a manicure or pedicure.
3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.
2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser. (I hope not anyway)

and the Number 1 reason your dog's haircut costs more than yours:
1. The likelihood of you pooping or peeing while your hair is being cut is extremely slim!!
