I guess why ppl don't donate was the 1st thought. There are so many pet owners in this country, you would think they would want to see animals cared for adequately, research $ going into new/better treatments for diseases they suffer from, etc.
As for vet charging, in my exp I have found vets to be more than reasonable in their fees. Considering the amount of education for DVM, staff, equipment, building overhead - very reasonable. I have heard some think pet ins would help answer vet payment problems, but w the mess health ins has turned into in human med I am not sure that's the answer.
