Good news and Scary News I went to the very special ortho specialist who fixes other ortho's screw ups yesterday. I got some fantactic news - he CAN fix me -- and some very scary news - the procedure.
In a nutshell, they will remove the plate - both the part that is broken and the other part that is still screwed through my tibia. Then they will give me a bone marrow transplant (marrow harvested from my femur). Here's where it gets tricky. Dr. T. will break my tibia above the damage and install a Ilizarov halo. I am supposed to be walking the day after surgery. I'll be in the hospital for 2 - 4 days and will have the halo as my best friend for up to 14 months while the bone mends and they lengthen my leg.
We'll schedule surgery when I go back on Monday. |
