How many months do you stop the medication? In Maryland, I can't imagine it would be more than 3-4 months. I don't see how 3-4 months, or even 6 months off, would dramatically reduce the risk, if there is one, of detrimental effects of heartworm preventatives. If damage is a concern, test annually.
