We have one of each - both are very affectionate but can also be independent. Mabel is not as playful and loves to cuddle. Darwin is full on play mode and wants to fetch most of the day. They both settle down nicely and will lay with me when I sit down. It really depends on the individual dog - when I was looking for a little girl first, I fell in love with Darwin, of course, the next year I still wanted my little girl so.....
