I second the thought that it could take them a while to bond. Even though the little boy is 'yours', you will probably still have to give the female extra affection and attention so that she does not become too jealous of the new addition. That could seriously effect their relationship. Usually we recommend to do everything first for your first dog ~ they eat first; are greeted first; out the door first; leashed up first. Eventually the two dogs will work out who is 'alpha' and this may vary in different situations - but for now, you can support the older dog in her role as 'alpha'.

She will correct the puppy and I would not intervene unless her 'corrections' are too harsh. Absolutely no blood should be drawn.

She might need a spot of her own where the puppy cannot get to her. She may tire of puppy antics aftera while.

It took my Westie a few months to get used to Lucy and actually play with her.
