I wouldn't leave mine at a kennel either. Luckily hubby feels the same way as I do about them. I've also am fortunate now that I've got a few neighbors that wouldn't mind taking care of them if need be.
So sorry for your loss of your older dog.
I hope your brother will do this for you. It will be sort of a vacation for him as well.
