I went about 5 years ago. It was in May and it was COLD and it snowed. I think the weather is very changeable there, but yes, it will be hot in the summer. I have heard that you need reservations about a year in advance to get an RV spot in the park. I know we had to reserve our cabins way in advance. It is absolutely spectacular and you will certainly enjoy it. The Yellowstone website tells you almost everything you need to know. You can also stay in some of the little towns around Yellowstone, there aren't a lot of them, and spots fill up fast there too.
