My vet prescribed the Zymox also, but I haven't tried it yet, from what I've read it's supposed to be very good stuff. I had instead decided to try the Coconut oil first, as I read great things about that too.

I don't think the two should be used together in the ear, I think the Coconut oil would prevent the Zymox from working, as the oil coats the ear canal. The Zymox changes the environment in the ear, and I believe the CO would restrict that reaction. It wouldn't hurt to add the CO to his food though.

It sounds like your pup may have an inner ear infection, in which case he may need oral antibiotics in addition to ear drops (which ever you decide to use). I wouldn't use an ear cleanser at this point, as it would be too painful. But I would call either or both vets back and ask about antibiotics and inner ear infections, as your pup is highly aggravated and is in discomfort from whatever is going on in his ear. (JMHO) With all the rubbing he's doing, he may end up damaging the ear flap. If the vets want to see him again... it may help to shoot a video of his behavior to show them exactly what he's doing.

IMHO, I'd try the Zymox in his ears, give the Benedryl, and add the CO to his food for now, and talk to the vet.
