Default aside from the obvious......

fresh water, food, a new unique toy and someone to check in on pup, if possible. What I remind folks is that when they are home there's usually T.V., radio, noise going on. The silence when pup is left alone must be mighty uncomfortable when he is used to day to day activities and the noise that goes with...I've always left mine with something running to break the silence. Also a lived in item of your clothing in his sleeping place is comforting as well. Be aware that as pup adapts to your absences, he'll likely snooze through most of the time you are away.
