Sadly for the pups, every 3 to 5 years (only if something is wrong) isn't at all uncommon. And a ton of owners only feel like they have to go yearly for "shots". So suggesting they be done less often, while great on the over vaccination side of things, can be absolutely horrible for overall health. They just don't bring them at all for those two years in between or whatever.
We do exam, bloods, fecal, heartworm, and u/a once yearly. Would probably do a 6 month exam, but hse always needs to be seen during the year, so it isn't needed. One year she was seen probably 15+ times. Now it's maybe 4-7. But then she comes to hang out when I'm there, so she is looked at anytime I have a concern. And if we're not there and a pic can capture what is going on, there is always email and texting.
I've become much more relaxed though, so she is not seen for every little thing.
