The eyes are protected by eyelid and lashes. The hair is just that, hair. Just as human hair doesn't protect the eyes, neither does Yorkie hair. In fact, if left to grow down, it's possible for the hair to actually cause irritation and even infection to the eyes.
Have no fear pulling the hair up in to a bow.
