I'm sure if it was Carbon Monoxide & there's an alarm for that you would def know it, as it'd probably be beeping you into insanity. They're really sensitive & can usually detect it before it's at a dangerous level.

LOL! I considered that it is probably the battery- it seems very odd because this place was only built 6 months ago, so new batteries had to have been put in at that time- seems like a short battery life- but that is really the most likely conclusion- which is why I didn't call maintenance- I hate to wake some guy up out of bed to come change the battery.
I figured the Carbon Monoxide (thanks by the way! no idea why I wrote Dioxide in the first post- well lack of sleep comes to mind I guess
) noise would be more annoying.
I just don't understand why the battery couldn't start to die at 1:00pm instead of 1:00am.
