Bonding with puppy Hello all,
My husband and I adopted our second yorkie puppy earlier this month. We had a yorkie who died in an accident at age 1 earlier this spring.
We also have a mini schnauzer named Fry and both the schnauzer and original yorkie were very bonded and attached to "their people." Our new guy (Hermes) is very curious, playful and out going. I try to spend as much time with him as I can, play with him, take him on walks, hold and cuddle him and groom him. He does love us but seems more interested in playing/being with Fry. Fry is very bonded to his people and is less interested in Hermes. I want Hermes and Fry to be great friends and playmates, but I also want some one-on-one time and cuddles w/ Hermes. I have tried to play with him more but he tends to lose interest at some point and goes off to explore or play with Fry.
Is this just normal puppy behavior? Our original yorkie was tiny and Fry would not play with him. He was very bonded to me and spent a lot of time laying on my lap or playing a game of fetch with me.
Do you all have any thoughts? Tips? It's been awhile since we've had a young puppy in the house. I'm not sure if I'm overreacting to normal puppy curiosity and energy or if I should do more to ensure a strong bond is formed during our first few months together. He is around 15 weeks old as of May 25.
Thanks! |
