When my bff got married, they did it the filipino way (her husband is) and get sponsors. The family members who sponsor get their name on the invite and they get to walk down the aisle, and get a formal introduction at the ceremony and feel all super important. That is their gift, no other gift is needed, unless they want to give it. But the couple should NOT ask their friends! It's especially hard to believe that she would ask anyone, esp seeing as this is her second time around.

I do understand though, from seeing this happen to another friend (and she told me about her friend) the couple had a lot of non refundable deposits on the venue, the flowers, etc, and of course stuff had already been paid for like dresses. But really, they need to scale back big time if they can't afford it.
