Can't really help the smell good thing, but I use Ile of Dogs shampoo, and it seems to keep him smelling good for a week or two depending on how often he goes outside.
For the coat I would recommend feeding either fish oil or fish... you have to start it slowly, but I swear by it. Harley gets 2 "icecubes" worth each day of Sardines and his coat is beautiful. I barely have to comb it.
