You are hearing some very good advice here. I agree with many of the posts. My Rosie was suppose to be my sons dog. However, she is now mine. She is very much attached to me. She loves my oldest son and my husband. My youngest she will bark at every time he moves. Yappy, yes a little. If she hears anything she is barking.
Although she is very pampered, Rosie is full blooded terrier. She can be very stubborn. We tried paper training and it did not work for us. However, she is doing great going outside. She is also stubborn about her food. That is a real challenge.
Grooming for long hair Yorkies is a daily requirement. I have laughed and said that my girl is very high maintenance. She is brushed and combed every night. Shedding is not an issue at all but you will find some hair. My understanding is they lose hair just like we do.
Rosie is very laid back most of the time. She likes to lay around but can be hyper when she wants to play.
If you want a dog that you have to give lots of time to, then a Yorkie is a great choice. But if you don't want to put in the time I would say go with a different breed.
Shih Tzu is a wonderful breed as well. My parents own one and she is a great dog. She is more independent than Rosie. And defiantly less hyper. However, just based on my parents experience, they have special needs that must be tended to as well. She does not seem to bark as much as my Rosie.
The best kid dog in my opinion is a beagle. They are laid back and easy going. You just have to get past the "howling". Lol.
