I had a peke...flat faced dog. Yes, they do have more problems breathing than alot of other breeds...especially here in Alabama. We couldn't keep the little guys outside (not that we would have anyway), but even just to let them out to go to the bathroom, only for short periods of time in the summer. Even after a few minutes, they would be panting and practically gasping for air sometimes and would go in and lay on top of the air vents in the floor to cool off. Chachi, my male actually had a heat stroke after being out for a very short time (like, less that 10 minutes) and quit breathing on the way to the Emergency Vet's office 10 minutes away. (Honestly, my dad did CPR on him in the car...not fun!) He survived, but we had to keep them cut very short in the summer because their hair literally weighed them down when they got hot.
