My boys got their first puppy cut at 11months. It was a bit sad for me because although they looked GREAT, they looked like big boys and not puppies anymore!
I don't think anything causes liver shunt, I think they are born with it.... I am not 100% sure though, I'd search that on here, I'm sure you'll find TONS of info on it!
