No- it recommends you use it for some period of time (I forget what it was now)- so I used it for that period and stopped. I didn't see any drawbacks- it got rid of the tartar build up that was starting on the dogs teeth- you have to remember that nothing can get under the gumline except a vet- so if the dogs teeth are too bad, they will still need a vet cleaning.
