First, there's sooo many bad breeders out there who are not breeding to standard and basically just don't care. If you don't know your lines, you may have had grandparents or great grandparent doggies that were larger so a pup could take after them, etc.
Also, Yorkies at one point in time WERE larger terriers. Hudderfeld Ben, the "founding father" of Yorkies was around 12lbs or so, I believe (he was in a higher range). But he often had smaller puppies. So sometimes genes just go back that far and you get a larger pup. Two small dogs doesn't automatically make small puppies, etc.
Sometimes things just happen, lol. Ever seen those people who are like 6'5" and their parents are like 5'4"? LOL. Sometimes... it just happens! |
