if it's working "temporarily" then that usually means it's working, just make sure you keep doing every single time, he will get it!
same with housetraining... i've learned! they seem to have it, but then when you start giving them freedom they start pottying in the house again when you let up... it'll take your little guy a good year to know everything! and even after that you'll find lots of things to teach him!
