Don't buy from sites that have payment options right on the site. Red flag.
Don't buy from sites that have "puppies of the month" or "special discounts." Red flag. (Seriously? WTF is wrong with these sellers???)
Don't buy from breeders that don't grill YOU for info as much as you should grill THEM.
Don't buy from breeders that have no interest in YOUR home environment or how YOU will do things.
Don't buy from breeders that won't answer ALL of your questions happily and willingly.
I could go on, but the main point is Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware. It is up to YOU as the buyer to do the research.
You can do a lot of research on finding a reputable breeder and what red flags to look for all over YT. I must say, I am a bit surprised after being burned once OP you didn't do your homework.
After all, you were going to buy from a seller who has such obvious red flags associated with them.
I hope you are more careful with your selection in the future. Do the research and buy your breeder first. Don't buy that cute puppy face. All pups are cute and easy to fall in love with, while breeders are not. Buy your breeder first.
There are plenty of suggestions and resources for you to learn from right here on YT. Take the time to educate yourself before going to look for a pup.
