Hi. I was just informed of this thread. I read thru it, and glad the little dog made it thru the surgery. THat is 1/2 the battle. I have an 11 year old Cane Corso that had 18" of intestine removed and the diagnoses was Mast Cell. The Oncologist vet put him on Prednisone and 8 chemo sessions with Vinblastin over a 12 week period. He was cancer free for only 2 months after the Chemo, and the Ultrasound showed that was starting in his Liver, based on the biopsy. Vet asked if we wanted to do the RESCUE ATTEMPT....well, Carlo was in great shape, so heck yes. He got 1 CEENU pill every 3 weeks for a total of 3 pills, and then went on one CEENU pill every 6 weeks. He will be on that for as long as he is around. After the 3 pills, he was again cancer free, and has been that way for 6 months now. It has been over a year since his surgery. Dogs tolerate Chemo very well, but there are naturally some side effects. Carlo may be one of the olders Corso's in the Country, goes for 1-2 mile walks a day, has a great disposition, and lets the little Yorkies boss him around.
You can PM me for any additional information. I am no expert, but it was a team effort. Carlo, the Specialist, and Carlo's family. We all wish you and your dog the best.
