I understand YTNR has to follow procedure, but I just wish I had been informed beforehand of all their policies.

Also, I did ask YTNR to PLEASE try and place them together, and they assured me they would TRY but could not guarantee it. TxVicki, you were probably looking at the right two dogs - Bode (pronounced Bo-dee) and Emma, but that adoption fee is for EACH. The two together are $1600.

On one hand, I feel like no one is going to pay that much for both dogs, so they'll almost certainly be separated. On the other, if someone DOES pay that much, they'll surely want only the best for them.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20. Even as my heart tells me I did the right thing, it bleeds into my soul. I knew that I would grieve, but I never thought I would be inconsolable. My spouse keeps saying, "We can get a lawyer and get them back," but no...no, we can't. We can't bring them back into the same situation. They need more than we can give them. Sometimes love just isn't enough.
I know that you decision to surrender your pups to YTNR was very difficult and not taken lightly because you loved Brody and Emma. What I can say to you is that YTNR is a very reputable rescue and they do what they do because they love and care for the Yorkie breed. When you surrendered Emma and Brody you did relinquish your rights to all contact and I can guarantee you that they will not waiver on this point. I just took a quick look at their pictures and bio. Here is what it says about their adoption fee:
Adoption Donation is $775 + $25 for the microchip for each of them.

The way that I read the above is that they will be adopted together for $775 and that each will also need a $25 mircrochip for a total of $825. I really think that you are misreading. Most rescue have a scale for adoption fees according to age.

There are some dogs that need to be euthanized for a variety of reason but this is a decision that is NEVER taken lightly and done for medical reasons and quality of life.

Remember when Oprah had the Puppymill Yorkies on her show? Those little ones were in horrific condition and they were all vetted and rehomed. Emma and Brody are in very capable and loving hands.
