This is solved if you decide to free feed, which I choose to do. Then they can eat whenever they want. You still have to check to make sure they ARE eating, and limit the total amount if you have a dog that is prone to overeating and getting chubbers lol, but free feeding is great.

My kids were 5 & 3 when they got their first yorkie and grew up with her. They loved having a little dog and I think it made them more conscious of being gentle with all small animals. They are now in college & bought me my newest yorkie just this past January. I'm sure your teenage kids will be fine with a small pup.
Yes, yorkies do require a little more grooming than some dogs...but it's well worth the effort...just look at how cute they are
Best of luck with your search for your new yorkie puppy |

My own input:
I have severe dog allergies (and well allergies in general) as well as asthma. I could not have a dog for the longest time. Then I met a morkie in a pet store and fell in love without hives! I did not buy from there because they were supplied by mills

, but I did end up with a morkie of my very own.
I do not break out, sneeze, itch, wheeze, etc. around her. Occasionally, when I'm grooming, I have some minor sneezing if she hasn't been bathed in awhile. That isn't a huge issue though. However, every dog is different, so make sure your daughter meets the dog ahead of time to see if she reacts (make sure she doesn't med up before hand, but bring some with you).
Good luck on your search and keep us posted!
