I have a question about how many often and how many at a time. Assume Cheerios, since everyone knows how big a Cheerio is. Someone just mentioned their pup getting 'two Cheerios' at a time for a treat. Is this about normal? I assume the number of treats varies depending on the treat given (meat, vegetable, Cheerio). How many and how often do you give (esp when training)?

My husband likes to give treats but we don't want to go overboard and give too much - don't want to spoil her dinner and especially don't want to give her too much of anything not healthy. We've avoided all the grocery store treats after reading YT, but she's not been fond of most of the good stuff. She will eat a bit of carrot now and then and likes Fiber 1 (original). She's not a big Cheerio fan, though.
Ya, if you picture what two Cheerios looks like, that's about the amount that will be a good "treat" for a small Yorkie. Have you tried something with a soft texture? That seems to make a difference for the little ones who are picky. I actually rarely give my dogs treats, they don't get them "just because" ever, unless it's somthing to chew on like a bully stick. The treats they actually eat are reserved for rewards only (about twice a week I'll run the older two through their "tricks" using treats). That's just how I do it becuase then when it is a "reward", they appreciate it more. There's no real need to make treats part of their every day feeding, if they don't like them, don't use them, unless you need a training incentive. Make sure you warn your hubby too not to give things off his plate, I know sometimes men love to do that
