I think one of my kids are mildly allergic to dogs since when we visit our friend with the lab, she starts sneezing, itchy eyes, etc. I did my fair share of research on line, but would like to hear from the owners. What do you think in terms of our choices, any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Also, looking for a breeder recommendation in northern NJ / eastern PA. Thank you. |
I would strongly suggest to you not to get a yorkie, but perhaps a larger breed. Yorkies are not dogs for kids to take care of, depending on the eventual size of the dog your looking at under 7lbs. I say this to avoid tragedy in your home.
There is a lot of grooming with yorkies, daily brushing, combing, cleaning out eye gunk, etc.
I understand you want your children to be responsible and want one that wont affect their allergies, with yorkies you can still have allergies, I myself suffer from dog allergies, I have to be careful with washing my hands after grooming etc. So its no guarantee.
Actually Poodles medium sized are very sturdy dogs and affect the allergies much less, that is why my first two dogs are yorkie-poos. You'll find them more agreeable to children.
God Bless in your final decision and wish you well
