Default Will Cooper adjust?

Hi looking for some insight, I got my first yorkie about eight years ago, I was hooked, a few months later I got my second yorkie. Fife my first yorkie was so kind and great the alpha dog, shaffer my second was the sweetest dog ever but looked to fife for security. When fife died last June shaffer was a mess, I knew I needed another dog, I rescued cooper two weeks after fife died, it was the best thing for both shaffer and myself, shaffer at six showed Cooper how to be a dog Cooper lived in a crate for three years, I was so proud of shaffer, shaffer became best buds with Cooper just like he was with fife only a few short weeks after we got him. My fife had a collapsed trachea, was sick on off for almost two years, shaffer also had a collapsed trachea that started right after Christmas, he had three major episodes and I needed to put him to sleep just yesterday. I'm heartbroken, Cooper seems confused, but okay. After fife died I knew I needed another dog quickly, this time, I'm so heartbroken I'm not sure another dog is right now but I worry shout Cooper. So far if I gout I leave him with someone so he isn't alone. Any thoughts or insight would be helpful Ty..
