Injuries do take longer to heal inside of the mouth. It does not have a lot of access to oxygen which helps healing process. You might want to see your family practitioner just because you may need an antibiotic to help it heal. Rinsing your mouth regularly w Listerine will help also - germ killer.

Wow, that story of the mouth cancer would be scary.
