If it's too late for you to back out and find another breeder, you should definitely try to see whether you can pick the puppy up at 8 weeks. It would be much much better if you can wait till the puppy is even older.
I know they are so adorable but it is not worth the risk to take the puppy home that young. Many things could go wrong and if you ask me - no good breeder would let their puppy go so young. I am not sure whether the puppy would even have his/her first shot at 6 weeks.
