Both of my yorkies have been known to go through the trash for those kinds of things. They more or less have shredded them and not actually eaten them. If you think it was just shredded, he'd probably be alright, but if you think he actually ate it, then definitely take him to the vet. It might be a good idea to at least call the vet to see what they advise one way or the other to see what they think it the best to do.
