Default carrier help

I was looking at carriers and I was wondering what the rules you should follow when buying a carrier. Like do they need to be able to stand up all the way and other things that need to be thought about when buying a carrier. Callie is a teapot but I am able to carrie her weight on my shoulder and I am looking at carriers so I can use it to put her in when unloading and loading the cars and hotel on trips, takeing her in to family members houses where I have to set up her playpen and for any emergencies and other things I might need it for. I was hoping yall could help me know what I need to look at when buying a carrier.
